Our Goals and Commitments
At Mercavelo Research, our goals are defined not by growth targets or market share metrics but by the standards we hold ourselves to in the work we produce and the relationships we build with clients. We believe that research organisations working in commodity markets have a responsibility to raise the analytical quality available to the businesses that depend on these markets. This means investing continuously in our data infrastructure, our modelling capabilities and the expertise of our team, even when that investment is not immediately visible to clients in the form of new product launches. It also means being honest about what we do not know and resisting the temptation to project false certainty in an inherently uncertain domain.
Every analytical output we produce — whether a price series, a forecast or a strategic research report — is accompanied by documentation that explains how conclusions were reached, what data sources were used and where material assumptions were made. We publish our methodologies not as legal boilerplate but as genuine working documents that clients can engage with and challenge. This transparency is the foundation of the trust that makes our research valuable in high-stakes commercial decisions.
Mercavelo Research does not hold commodity positions, does not offer financial products and does not accept advisory fees from commodity producers or sellers whose interests could influence our analysis. Our only commercial relationship is with the clients who subscribe to and commission our research, which means our incentives are straightforwardly aligned with producing analysis those clients can rely on. We disclose any potential conflicts of interest proactively and manage our client relationships to prevent situations where editorial independence could be compromised.
Commodity markets evolve, and the models and data sources that best described them five years ago may not be the most effective tools available today. We maintain a structured programme of methodological review that systematically evaluates the predictive performance of our forecasting models, the coverage and reliability of our data sources and the analytical frameworks we apply to structural market questions. Where we identify weaknesses, we invest in remediation before those weaknesses affect client outputs.
We are committed to ensuring that every client engagement produces a clear return — whether that is a measurable improvement in procurement costs, a better-informed contract negotiation, a risk that is successfully avoided or a strategic opportunity that is identified and captured. We track the outcomes of our research engagements and use this feedback to refine the formats, frequencies and focus areas of our deliverables over time. Our goal is not to be read but to be used.
When markets move unexpectedly, our clients should be able to reach us quickly and get a substantive response, not a generic market commentary republished from a news wire. We structure our client service model around direct analyst access, with clear response time commitments and escalation paths for urgent analytical requests. We hold ourselves accountable to these commitments and measure our performance against them on a regular basis.
One of our long-term goals is to help clients build their own internal analytical capabilities so that they become more sophisticated consumers of market intelligence over time. This includes explaining our methodologies in accessible terms, conducting workshops on commodity market dynamics and helping internal teams develop frameworks for evaluating market information from multiple providers. Stronger clients make for more productive research relationships and better commercial outcomes for everyone involved.
Our near-term roadmap includes systematic expansion of our coverage into commodity categories and trade geographies that are currently underserved by high-quality independent research, with particular focus on critical minerals, agricultural inputs and emerging market trade corridors that are growing in strategic importance. Coverage expansions are prioritised based on client needs and market gaps rather than areas where existing data is easiest to obtain. We aim to be the research partner clients turn to as their supply chains evolve and diversify.
We are actively investing in data infrastructure that will allow us to process larger volumes of trade, pricing and logistics data faster and with greater granularity, improving both the accuracy and timeliness of our analytical outputs. This includes development of proprietary price index methodologies for markets where existing benchmarks are inadequate, and integration of alternative data sources — such as satellite-derived inventory estimates and vessel tracking — into our supply analysis frameworks. These investments are designed to widen the analytical gap between Mercavelo Research and providers relying on conventional data sources.
The integration of environmental and social factors into commodity sourcing decisions is accelerating, driven by both regulatory requirements and corporate sustainability commitments. Mercavelo Research is developing a dedicated research programme that helps clients understand the carbon intensity, water use, labour standards and regulatory compliance profiles of the commodity supply chains they depend on. Our goal is to make sustainability intelligence as rigorous and actionable as our conventional pricing and trade flow research.
